The Hating Game Trailer - Good or Bad?
The Hating Game is a book I loved so much when I read it. The book was enemies to lovers, Grumpy x Sunshine, forced proximity, how can I not like it. Josh and Lucy's chemistry was just so explosive and I absolutely wanted to read more of it and I was so excited for the movie but once again people prove that book to movie adaptations are not it.
The Hating Game trailer dropped a while ago and I needed a lot of time to process that trailer. I've embedded the video here but I am also going to link the trailer at the end so you can also check it out.
If we talk about casting Lucy Hale as Lucy was excellent casting, Austin Stowell as Josh might not have been the best choice. I don't want to badly criticize Austin, but most of the fandom expected a different Josh. They also kind of butchered josh's entire personality, and I was cringing so hard through the trailer at that. In the book, Josh is so grumpy, and one of Lucy's main aims is to get Josh to smile. The whole hating thing began because Josh hadn't given Lucy a smile, ut in the trailer, Josh is smiling every 2 seconds, and I don't like it at all; it basically means they changed half of Josh's personality.
They also butchered the Elevator Kiss Scene so badly, and I am so angry for that. Josh was supposed to Initiate the kiss, not Lucy. This pissed me off way more than the josh casting because you are basically changing a big plot of the book.
Another thing I want to get in on is the fight scenes. Apparently, the fight scenes also got physical in the trailer like what even. In the book, all the fights remain either verbal or happening through pranks, and these fights remain personal and professional enough. But in the trailer, they are fighting amongst everyone, and they are getting physical. That just puts a whole other spin on the HR game.
The trailer also shows them being all cute and couply like hello this is an enemies to lovers and they were not being cute or couple till the very end even though they have their first kiss very early on.
In Conclusion, I personally did not like the Hating Game trailer and It did look like a Hallmark Christmas Movie that one watched when they have literally nothing else to do. I really hope that the movie doesn't ruin scenes like the Paintball scene and the scene where Josh takes care of Lucy. I'm still holding out hope but let's see.
