SYNOPSIS

Two sisters.

One brutal murder.

A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…

And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

MY REVIEW

I read Kingdom of the Wicked and Kingdom of the Cursed in 2 days continuously because I could not stop. The book revolves around Emilia, a witch, who uses dark magic when she finds her twin sister's deceased body. But the dark magic she does leads her to summon the Wrath, One of the Princes of Hell. Wrath and Emilia align to work against this mysterious person who is responsible for all the killings of the witches that are happening.

One of the things I really loved was the setting of the entire series. The first book takes place in Italy, while the second one takes place in hell. Especially in the second book, I loved the author's take on Hell. Other than the setting, the world-building and the plot was just mind-blowing.

If we talk plot-wise, this book is filled with twists, you won't see half of the things coming, but at the same time, you will be like, "Oh lord, I should have seen that coming." With deaths, mystery, and romance, this book quickly made its way onto my best reads. The end of the second book was a sort of cliff-hanger, and It's a pain to wait for an entire year to get the third book. In most fantasy series, the second book in the series is more focused on romance, and it was also true for this one. The Kingdom of the Cursed developed a romantic relationship with Emilia; I won't mention who because it's part of the twist.

From the start, Wrath's character had been the mystery. The morally grey prince of hell who loves cannoli had such character development from the first book to the second book, and I can't wait to see the third book. Emilia had been a sort of annoying character as she was difficult for no reason, but I didn't particularly have a problem with it. We have other Princes of Hell, and to surprise nobody who knows me, I happen to love them all because of Morally Grey Men. Though there is this one person in the series I have a problem with, and I hope the third book explains things about that person.

To sum it up, the entirety of this book was just brilliant, from the world-building to character development to the plot. Not really important to the review, but the Hardcover version of these books are so beautiful too. Kerri Manscilco's writing was just brilliant, and after this series, I might just pick up the Stalking the Jack Ripper series by the same. I have some high expectations of the third book, and I really hope it doesn't end up disappointing me.
