SYNOPSIS

Among the immortals that inhabit our world, Arnaud Demeure is known as the man who can fulfil your one true wish or who can also conjure your worst nightmares.

Eight invitations are sent to eight immortals, and when Arnaud Demeure hosts a party, no one refuses his request. Why have they been summoned? Is it for a celebration, or does a sinister fate await them? After all, in the ways of Magick, a party can also be a ritual to end the world.

As the mystery deepens, the attendees must overcome their personal grudges to unravel the threads of Demeure's grand plan that has been centuries in the making. But, with one of the guests secretly working with their host to sabotage the group's every move, it seems impossible to look behind the curtain to learn Demeure's true intentions.

With each guest hiding dark secrets and darker intentions, will they be able to uncover Demeure's mysterious motives, or will the party prove to be the deadly nightmare that they each fear?

MY REVIEW

"Paris was dead, and the Great Ones were free."

I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.

A Wish Too Dark and Kind has two plots simultaneously going together. One of the plots is about Alex, who has been invited to a party hosted by Arnaud Demeure, to which only eight people in total have been invited. The second story, which is told through letters and notes, is the story of Arnaud Demeure himself.

As a teenager, I might not be what the author intended as his primary audience for this because I had to give up the book halfway through. The story started really strong, but by the time I reached the end of the book I lost all interest, and it took so much willpower not to chuck it in the DNF zone.

The writing style of the author has to be praised. The way things are described and how the author has structured the book was fantastical. The quote at the start really attracted me to this book with the power it held. After the first few chapters, things start to clear up as to what is going on, and you begin to unravel the secrets of the characters primarily Arnaud Demeure's through his diary. I loved the secrets, lies, magic and deceit, but in the second half of the book, it seemed like the author was dragging the book.

If as a reader I had liked the second part then I would say this book is a great read and I might just give it a 4 star but I could not handle the second part hence this is a 3 star rated book for me
